Whale shark at Dauin

Full of awe the guests of the Amontillado resort looked over the railing of the dive-banca “Diana” when the captain shouted: “Whale shark on starboard!”. And it was impossible to oversee this magnificent 6 meter long creature when it majestically passed by at a depth of 1 meter and only 2 meters distance of the boat. Excitedly the guests donned masks, snorkel and fins and made full use of their surface interval in the accompaniment of this rare visitor to our waters

Large Pelagics at Apo Island

Our guides and guests increasingly confirm sightings of large pelagics at Apo island, amongst others reef sharks, grey sharks, mantas and eagle rays. Personally we sighted a thresher shark on March 2, 2010 at the dive site ‘Cogon’ (presented in the video clip). We still can’t guarantee sightings, but the recent increased in sightings make us hopeful for the future.

Since 2007 Amontillado Resort has supported an orphanage (Children's Joy Foundation) in Dumaguete. At Christmas the children sing and dance for the guests of the resort who then donate some money.

Last year friends and guests of the resort also contributed to the project and donated in total 1.500 Euro. The amount was used to buy school uniforms and materials, furniture, computer and printer and for each child personalised christmas gifts.

Drive & Dive

As newest acquisition of the Philippine Amontillado Beach & Dive Resort, the Pasajero “Fun-Car” supports the “Drive & Dive” concept which is a great alternative to boat diving, due to its high flexibility and relaxed transportation for those divers who suffer from sea sickness.

The new Fun-car has ample space for 6 divers plus equipment and is used to shuttle them to the dive sites along the coast of Dauin.

New Dive Banca

A new dive  banca has been built to meet divers' needs and is now part of the Amontillado fleet. "Nushka" has ample space for 12 divers and will be used to reach the beautiful dive sites along the Dauin coast, amongst others the "Pier", and for day trips to Apo Island, Sumilon and Siqujor.

The large dive banca "Diana" got a new engine and was completely overhauled. The maiden voyage to Apo Island took only 30 minutes!
